Holistic HIV Service Network's (HHSN)goal is to end the transmission of HIV/AIDS to lessen its impacts on vulnerable communities. HHSN works to empower those affected and infected by the epidemic to lead better life, be productive citizens capable of contributing their part to the development of their nation. The organization seeks to prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS and mitigate its impacts by creating a strong and responsive network/referral linkage to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services. HHSN promote awareness and stigma reduction towards HIV/AIDS at local, national and global level by integrating education, advocacy, and promotion of positive living.
In the United States, HHSN mainly targets African immigrant/diaspora population especially Ethiopian/Eritrean community. These target communities came to U.S from a region where the prevalence of HIV/AIDS and the stigma is very high. The issue of HIV/AIDS among these groups has been silenced because of cultural, traditional and religious beliefs. Addressing the issue of HIV/AIDS among these group of people requires programs and intervention tailored towards their culture, perception about the epidemic, tradition, way of living and their circumstance in the U.S. Therefore HHSN engages primarily in designing and implementing evidence- based HIV/AIDS programs and interventions targeted immigrant community, especially the Ethiopian/Eritrean community.
Internationally HHSN engages on global Policy advocacy for the rights of HIV positive people. HHSN works to address global health systems and policies addressing the specific needs of HIV positive people.
In Ethiopia, HHSN partners with the National Network of Positive Women Ethiopians and Network of Networks of HIV Positives (NEP+) to reach out the most affected and venerable group of people. These two prominent partner organizations made significant progress in the national HIV/AIDS prevention and control effort in Ethiopia. HHSN, now led by former leaders of those noticeable organizations, will continue to partner with them on global advocacy surrounding these issues.
